1860-1866

In 1860, N. Lytras went to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich on a state scholarship. At that time, the city was a meeting point for all artistic movements and productions in mid-19th century Europe. In the workshop of Professor K. T. von Piloty, a significant painter and sought-after teacher worldwide, N. Lytras studied the depiction and portrayal of people and objects based on careful observation and study of reality. Just before leaving Munich for Athens, he spent some time with his friend N. Gysis. Together, they visited museums, exhibitions, and the picturesque countryside of Munich.
