1940-1956
We know from testimonials and information from his descendants that besides his talent in painting, he had another amazing skill: restoring old furniture or anything else that was requested of him.
Many of his iconographies, as well as paintings, feature folk themes. They depict the life of ordinary people, always with a characteristic patriotic and divine-inspired style.
There are signed works of his in Syriani churches. In most cases, either his signature is illegible, or it is not there at all, but we know they belong to him.
Andreas Papoutsakis was (and remains) one of those artists who dedicated his art to the service of art itself, never deeming recognition, honor, or acclaim beneath him.
His works adorn churches in Syros and perhaps elsewhere, private collections, and even … storage rooms, completely forgotten, waiting for the light to recognize his worth and contribution.
He passed away on December 9, 1956, in his home in the Metamorfosi area of Ermoupolis.
